Fiber optic patch panels are also known as fiber distribution panels. It is an important supporting equipment in the optical transmission system, which is used for optical fiber fusion of the cable terminal, the adjustment of the optical connector, the storage of excess pigtails and the protection of the optical cable. It plays an important role in the safe operation and flexible use of optical fiber communication networks.

The basic fiber optic panel is usually a metal housing, which is used to surround the adapter panel and the fiber fusion splice tray. The function of the fusion splice tray is to fuse the optical fiber and the optical fiber pigtail together, and then insert the optical fiber pigtail into the fixed internal port of the adapter panel.

Generally speaking, the internal ports of the panel are fixed, which means that the cable will not be disconnected at any time. The external ports of the panel are dedicated to fiber optic jumpers, which can be inserted and removed frequently as needed to arrange connections between devices.

The fiber distribution panel usually has two compartments: one is used to contain the partition jack or adapter, and the other is used for the splice tray and extra fiber storage.

The role of fiber optic patch panel

The optical fiber distribution panel as the connection of the terminal equipment of the optical cable line has the following basic functions:

1. Splice function

When the optical cable is spliced, the pigtails need to be spliced and spliced. The optical fiber reel can coil the excess pigtails to protect the fusion splices.

2. Fixed function

After the optical cable enters the rack, the jacket and the reinforcement core can be connected and fixed.

3. Provisioning function

The connector on the pigtail cable is inserted into the adapter, and the other end connector of the adapter is used to realize the optical path docking. The adapter and the connector can be flexibly inserted and docked, and freely configured and tested.

Classification of fiber distribution panel

Optical fiber distribution panel is mainly divided into 12-port optical fiber distribution frame, 24-port optical fiber distribution frame, 48-port optical fiber distribution frame, 72-port optical fiber distribution frame, 96-port optical fiber distribution frame, 144-port optical fiber distribution frame.

Benefits of using fiber patch panels

All changes are concentrated in one place; the distribution frame simplifies the process of connecting different devices in different orders, because all changes can be made on the distribution frame; the distribution frame groups all input jacks / ports into one location, there is no need to look for input ports; in addition, the use of fiber optic distribution frames can also save the cost of expensive network equipment.

In summary, the optical fiber patch panel mainly plays the functions of fusion splicing, fixing, and deployment in optical network transmission; the optical fiber distribution frame can be divided into 12 ports, 24 ports, 48 ports, 72 ports, 96 ports, etc. Weak current projects need to determine the number of cores for fiber fusion splicing, and then choose the appropriate fiber distribution frame.
