In a structured cabling system, complete connections include cables, patch panels, wall outlets, and jumpers that support all network applications.

1. Usage of Patch Panel

As an important part of the integrated network cabling, the optical patch panel makes all kinds of equipment in the data center to be configured and installed in an orderly manner, as well as the orderly binding and trend of cables, so as to ensure the smooth and efficient transmission of the network. It should be paid special attention to the selection and installation of patch panel. The usage of optical patch panel with standard marking makes the system administrator clear in maintenance and management, thus reducing maintenance costs.

2. Basic Utilization Principles of Patch Panel

There are many types of optical patch panel on the market. Because each manufacturer has its own unique style and main features, it is a difficult task to select the right one for the right application.

However, there are still some basic principles for the utilization of optical patch panel for reference. It is as follows. Category 5 distribution frame is applied for category 5 (system) installation. Category 6 distribution frame is applied for optical fiber, and optical fiber patch panel is applied for optical fiber installation. In addition, all copper distribution frames shall be downward compatible with distribution frames of different performance types. Downward compatibility means that different kinds of paired connections with plugs and sockets meet the requirements of low class components, while all components used in structured cabling system are compatible with the system type component level.

The basic utilization principle of optical patch panel is relatively qualitative, but in order to select the best patch panel for installation, users need to consider more changing factors when using the selection, such as user demand, budget, reliability, installation life expectancy, ease of use, aesthetics and familiarity of installation personnel with the product.

3. High density cable management solution based on patch panel

Panel cable management involves many components. Different combinations meet the requirements of efficient management of high-density structured cabling in different applications.

(1) Rack Cabinet + Optical Fiber Patch Panel

In order to obtain a higher cabling density, the combination of fiber shell and fiber patch panel provides an efficient, flexible and simple method for fiber cable management in data center.

(2) Rack Mount Housing + Fiber Box

This installation option is for 10G to 40G or 25G to 100G applications.

(3) Blank Rack Mounted Modular Panel + Fiber Box

The blank modular panel has a variety of functions, which can provide a complete solution for network cabling and protection jumper. It is specially designed for front and rear installation, with convenient cable management.

(4) Blank Rack-mount Modular Panel + Fiber Optic Patch Panel

In addition to the fiber box, the blank rack-mount module board with tie bars can also accommodate 1U fiber patch panels, which can effectively manage the high-density structured cabling in the data center.

(5) MTP / MPO-LC Cabinet + Cable Management Panel

The MTP / MPO-LC cabinet is designed to connect 40 / 100G devices to existing 10G devices in a cost-effective manner. This solution is ideal for 40 / 100G migrations in high-density data centers.

(6) Blank Multimedia Adapter Patch Panel + Cable Management Panel

Blank multimedia adapter patch panels allow custom installation for multimedia applications that require integrated fiber patch cables and copper cables. Up to six different types of ports can be aggregated on demand at one time.

(7) Ethernet Patch Panel + Horizontal Cable Manager with D-ring

Ethernet patch panels include category 5, 6, or 7 patch panels. They are an ideal way to create a flexible, reliable, and clean cabling system for Ethernet cables.

Generally speaking, if there is no optical patch panel, the front-end network cable / optical fiber is directly connected to the switch. If there is a problem with the cable, it will be faced with re-wiring, and the front-end cable is generally pre-burying, so it is quite troublesome. Optical patch panel is applied to manage the equipment, and it solves such a problem well.
