With the popularization of 40G and 100G networks, MTP / MPO connectors have been widely used in the internal connection of data centers, office buildings and 40G and 100G QSFP + optical modules. In order to ensure the normal use of the MTP / MPO connector, it is necessary to clean the MTP / MPO connector before connecting it with other equipment, because the contaminated connector will cause performance degradation and network failure. One-push fiber optical cleaner and fiber optical cleaning box are common cleaning tools used to clean MTP / MPO connectors. Today we will introduce these two cleaning tools and share their detailed cleaning methods.

1. One-push Fiber Optical Cleaner and Fiber Optical Cleaning Box

The one-push fiber optic cleaner is a cost-effective cleaning tool that can clean the oil and dust on the end face of the fiber optic without using alcohol. You can clean contaminants in the MTP / MPO connector with just one touch. It can clean both the MTP / MPO connector installed on the adapter and the MTP / MPO connector on the fiber jumper. The fiber optical cleaning box is also a non-alcoholic cleaning tool. The ultra-fine cleaning tape is used in the box, and it can be replaced after use. A cleaning tape can be used more than 400 times, it is very efficient and convenient to use. After each cleaning, the MTP / MPO connector always presents a clean fiber end face.

2. Cleaning Steps of One-push Fiber Optical Cleaner and Fiber Optical Cleaning Box

For these two cleaning methods, be sure to check before cleaning. If the connector is clean, there is no need to clean it.

1) Cleaning steps of one-push fiber optical cleaner

The one-push fiber optical cleaner can clean both the MTP / MPO connector installed on the adapter and the MTP / MPO connector on the fiber jumper. Next we will introduce the cleaning steps of the MTP / MPO connector on the adapter and fiber jumper respectively.

Clean the MTP / MPO connector installed on the adapter:

A. Remove the cap on the one-push fiber optical cleaner.

B. Insert the tip of the cleaner into the adapter.

C. Rotate the wheel backward until you hear 2 "click" sounds, the cleaning work is completed.

Clean the MTP / MPO connector on the fiber jumper:

A. Gently remove the cap.

B. Insert the head end of the jumper into the head end of the cleaner.

C. Rotate the wheel backward until you hear 2 "click" sounds, the cleaning work is completed.

2) Cleaning steps of fiber optical cleaning box

A. Remove the dust cover of the connector.

B. Select the correct fiber optical cleaning box to clean the male MTP / MPO connector (with guide pin) and the female MTP / MPO connector (with guide hole).

C. For the female MTP / MPO connector, please use the cleaning brush and cleaning fluid to remove the debris from the guide hole.

D. Press the lever to expose the cleaning tank and cloth.

E. Slide the end face of the connector in the direction of the arrow.

F. Keep the connector vertical and clean the end face.

G. Before using the 200 × microscope for inspection, make sure that the air in the connector ferrule is dry.

H. If the cleaning is not thorough, you can clean again according to the above steps.

I. Please make sure that the connector is not in contact with any hard fine particles.

3. One-push Fiber Optical Cleaner or Fiber Optical Cleaning Box? How to Choose?

The one-push fiber optical cleaner can be used for MTP / MPO connector on the adapter and MTP / MPO connector on the fiber jumper, and the fiber optical cleaning box is only suitable for cleaning MTP / MPO connector on the fiber jumper. In addition, the one-push fiber optical cleaner can also clean ferrules on different types of connectors with or without guide pins. For the cleaning box, you need to select the correct type to clean the male MTP / MPO connector and the female MTP / MPO connector. In contrast, cleaning the MTP / MPO connector with a one-push fiber optical cleaner is more efficient and convenient.
